Personalized Omics Ingredients for the Improvement of the Microbiome, Health, and Food Quality from a Multisectoral Perspective

The OMIPERBIO Consortium was established with the aim of creating a strategic cooperation network among six Spanish technology centers with complementary capabilities. Its goal is to strengthen scientific and technical excellence in the application of omics technologies for the development of new ingredients and functional foods. These developments are based on innovative processes designed to positively modulate different microbiomes—human intestinal, human skin, and animal ruminal—while contributing to improved food quality and enhanced human and animal health from a multisectoral and sustainable perspective.

The consortium seeks to position itself as a national and international benchmark in applied research for a safe and healthy food chain. It aims to generate tangible impact through new R&D developments, technology transfer activities, and support for the business ecosystem within the agri-food, cosmetic, and livestock sectors.

Within the OMIPERBIO alliance, GOe Tech Center aims to consolidate its position as a national and international reference center in metabolomics and metagenomics applied to the generation and characterization of new ingredients and functional foods. This objective will be achieved by strengthening and expanding technological and scientific capabilities in microbiology, omics technologies, and bioinformatics. Key areas of focus include the production and characterization of postbiotics; the application of metagenomics to the study of the human microbiome; metabolomic analyses in in vitro studies, food products, and human health research; the development and exploitation of multi-omics databases; and training in bioinformatics tools.
